MGMT builds custom transformers: backbone hardware behind the grid for renewables, data centers, industry, and commerce.

The challenge

A technical subject, a possible IPO at the time, and a brief that ruled out everything a corporate video usually does.

Montage of wind turbines, solar farms and the night grid
Wind, solar, the night skyline: the opening says what's riding on the hardware.

The craft

David Schwartz and I split the directing: he took the interviews, I took the set. We made a lean above‑the‑line and below‑the‑line team carrying it from plan to finished piece.

Armando C of MGM Transformers speaking on the factory floor, bright copper rolls racked behind him
Armando, twenty years on this factory floor, tells it step by step in a 45 minute interview. We had 45 seconds for that story.

The job was to bring the nuance and the artisanship of this work to life for a room that had never seen a winding floor.

Jacob NasimIn the cutting room

The interviews were shot on green screen against factory‑floor plates, matched for focal length so the depth of field agreed, which bought clean sound on a floor that had none.

The deliverables

Built to play inside a pitch, not to open one, where major investment dollars
were at stake.
